Con un discurso moderado en el que con humor supo hacer referencia a las denuncias contra los abusos sexuales en la industria de Hollywood, Jimmy Kimmel dio inicio este domingo a la 90° ceremonia de los premios Oscar.
El primer ganador de la noche fue Sam Rockwell como Mejor actor de reparto por su trabajo en Tres anuncios para un crimen, película que llegó a la gala del domingo con 7 nominaciones. Dirigida por el inglés Martin McDonaugh, el film también cosechó el galardón a mejor actriz para Frances McDormand.
El Oscar a Mejor película extranjera fue para la chilena Una mujer fantástica de Sebastián Lelio, protagonizada por la actriz transgénero Daniela Vega mientras que la aclamada Coco se llevó el premio a la Mejor película animada y canción original Remember Me, interpretada por los artistas Miguel y Natalia Lafourcade.
Fue La forma del agua de Guillermo Del Toro, que tenía 13 nominaciones y se llevó 4, la ganadora del Oscar a la Mejor película, premio que fue entregado como en la edición 2017 por Warren Beatty y Faye Dunaway aunque esta vez los actores no confundieron al ganador.
